Why you need to embrace rejection

Summary

  • I learned that rejection can be a stepping stone to success. When one door closes, another might open, sometimes with even better opportunities.
  • Don’t be discouraged by initial rejections. Keep improving your skills and showcasing your work; those who said no might change their minds.
  • Sometimes, working with competitors can be beneficial. It can showcase your skills and attract the attention of those who initially rejected you.
  • Follow up even after rejection. Persistence can sometimes turn a "no" into a "yes."
  • Not all rejections will lead to future opportunities, so it's important to focus on growing and learning from each experience.

How To Take Action

I would suggest embracing rejection as a learning opportunity. When someone says no, think of it as a chance to grow and improve. Look at what might have gone wrong and work on making it better. This can turn rejections into stepping stones for future success.

A good way of dealing with rejection is to keep refining your skills. If someone thinks your work isn’t good enough, prove them wrong by getting even better. Show them what they’re missing by continuing to showcase your improved talents and projects.

Working with competitors can turn rejection into a win. If you get rejected by a company, try collaborating with their competitors. Doing excellent work for a competition can grab the attention of those who initially turned you down.

Always follow up after getting rejected. Sometimes, polite persistence can change a "no" into a "yes" later on. Send updates about your progress or new achievements to keep in touch without being pushy.

Remember, not every rejection will turn into an acceptance. Focus on learning as much as you can from each experience, whether it’s improving a specific skill or growing your network. Always be on the lookout for new doors opening when others close, and keep moving forward.

I've gotten rejected a lot of times I remember when I was younger I pitched this company to do marketing for them and they said no we don't need you we know how to do it all ourselves I ended up doing marketing for their competition and their competition put a logo of our brand saying marketing by you know at that time my company it was called ACS and then eventually the company that turned me down hit me like hey remember you want to do marketing for us yeah we like to work we see that you're doing marketing for a competition how can we get this going and uh it was funny eventually I got them as a customer but that time I got lucky enough to eventually get the client but most of my rejection stories I got rejected and then never worked with that person even if I followed up again
