Is Google Analytics Misleading You About Social Medias Impact?

Summary

  • Let me share a lesson about a company that stopped using social media, like Pinterest and YouTube. They were getting over 3 million impressions and views every month.
  • In Google Analytics, lots of sales come from the "last click," meaning the last place someone visited before buying. This made it look like social media wasn't helping sales.
  • The company thought social media wasn't worth the cost, so they paused their efforts for 6 months. At first, sales stayed the same, but then they dropped by 28%.
  • Surveys revealed many customers first saw them on social media but purchased 3 to 6 months later by searching directly for the company.
  • Don’t ignore the power of social media! Even if it doesn’t directly show up in sales reports, it can still lead to future sales.

How To Take Action

I would suggest making social media a part of your business strategy, even if it doesn’t show up directly in sales reports. Social media helps people discover you and might lead to sales later. Keep a consistent presence on these platforms. Spend a little time each week posting updates, sharing pictures, or creating short videos about your business. This keeps your brand in front of people.

A clever way to use your time is by re-purposing content. Take one piece of content and use it across different platforms. For example, a photo shared on Instagram can also be turned into a blog post or a video on YouTube. This way, you get maximum value from one piece of work.

Another tip would be to engage with your audience. Respond to comments and messages promptly and interact with your followers' content. Not only does this make your current and potential customers feel valued, but it also keeps your brand in their minds.

Lastly, do small surveys or ask simple feedback questions online to understand how your customers find you. This helps you see the big picture. Customers may not buy immediately, but they remember you. Use these insights to craft marketing strategies that nurture these relationships over time.

Incorporating these low-cost, high-impact methods into your routine can have long-term benefits for your business or personal growth.

let me tell you a story about a company that stopped using social media and what happened next this company was leveraging Pinterest and YouTube they were generating over 3 million impressions and Views per month but their Google analytics didn't show any sales from these two social channels because a lot of what happens in Google analytics is attributed to last click the last area they came from is what gets a credit for the sale in most cases so this company decided to stop using social media they're like ah this is expensive waste of time so for 6 months they didn't do anything on YouTube and Pinterest the first few months nothing really happened to their sales after that they slowly started to decline and after 6 months their sales declined by 28% so when they surveyed people figure out what happened they found out that a lot of their customers found them from social media and then they bought from them 3 to 6 months later by eventually just Googling or going directly to their website so don't take social media for gring just because you can't attribute a conversion directly to it it doesn't mean it's not driving sales
